These photos of copper repousse were submitted by Frankie Ann O'Neill of California.
She changes the color of the copper by burning it on a hotplate, being very careful not to burn it too much by constantly moving it. She then puts her artwork on the copper, scoring it very deeply with a special black pen. She then turns it upside down on a soft piece of foam and "puffs" it out to get the 3-dimensional effect. The final step is to mount it on the backing of her choice. For an extra "pop" she will sometimes mount the picture with a matting. She often uses "found frames" and will sometimes enhance one of the frames with inks. She also creates custom artwork as well.
